UGA’s Williams in third through Day One at Drake Relays

Georgia freshman Devon Williams is in third place through five events during the first day of the decathlon at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Marietta native has scored 3,657 points and trails the leader of the competition by only 132 points.

Williams cranks back up today with the 110-meter hurdles at 10:30 a.m. as the decathletes wrap up their final five events.

Thanks to a 49.86 in the 400, Williams wrapped up the day with his third second-place finish and 821 more points added to his total. He finished only seven hundredths of a second behind the winner in the fifth event.

Williams started the day by earning runner-up honors in the 100. He sped to a finish of 11.16 to score 825 points to begin the competition.
