UGA women’s tennis team announces signing of Spain’s Silvia Garcia

Spain’s Silvia Garcia has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend the University of Georgia, Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace announced Wednesday.

Garcia, a native of Madrid, is the fourth-ranked junior player and the 26th-ranked player in Spain.

“We are extremely excited to have Silvia join us this spring,” Wallace said in a news release. “She’s going to be a valuable addition to an already great team.”

Garcia’s career is highlighted by winning the Under-16 European Championship and the Under-14 and Under-16 Spanish Championships. Most recently, she finished runner-up at the Under-18 Spanish Championships. Garcia was also a semifinalist in the Under-16 division of the Orange Bowl, an annual tennis tournament in Florida hosted by the USTA.

Garcia will join the Bulldogs in January for the 2013 dual match season.
