Georgia senior tight end Arthur Lynch has been named to the 2013 John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List, it was announced Tuesday.
The Mackey Award, now in its 14th season, is given annually to the nation’s top tight end. The Mackey Midseason Watch List will be released on Oct. 14 and the semifinalists will be announced on Nov. 11. Finalists will be named on Nov. 25.
Lynch, a native of Dartmouth, Mass., started 13 of 14 games last year and finished with 24 catches for 431 yards and three touchdowns. Named the team’s Most Improved Player, the 6-foot-5, 254-pound Lynch posted career highs in receptions, yards and touchdowns in 2012. He had three catches for 50 yards and completed a pass on a fake punt that led to a touchdown against Alabama in the Southeastern Conference championship game.
Lynch has been named a Phil Steele Preseason Second Team All-American this summer after earning All-SEC Third Team honors in 2012.
The winner of the Mackey Award, along with the winners of a host of other awards, will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on Dec. 12.
The Bulldogs start the season with a non-conference matchup at Clemson on Aug. 31 at 8 p.m. ABC will televise the game from Memorial Stadium.
