UGA softball’s Wilson named SEC Freshman of the Week for fourth time

Georgia softball player Paige Wilson was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday after helping Georgia to two wins against Arkansas over the weekend.

It is the fourth time this season that Wilson has earned the honor, as she earned the recognition after the Cathedral City Classic in California and after conference series play against Ole Miss and Alabama.

The Chicago native recorded hits in each game versus Arkansas and had a two-run home run on Sunday to get Georgia’s first runs of the game. Wilson also had the RBI-single for Georgia’s lone run in the second game.

Wilson is second on the team in batting average (.327), hits (53), doubles (9), home runs (9) and RBI (43).

With the regular season finished, Georgia will start postseason play at 5 p.m. Thursday at the SEC Tournament in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The Bulldogs will be the No. 4 seed and are pitted against fifth-seeded Kentucky in the opening round. The first two days of the tournament will be featured on ESPNU while Saturday’s championship game will be on ESPN.
