UGA signee Atkins’ eligibility in question

The eligibility of Georgia defensive lineman signee John Atkins is in doubt after conflicting media reports surfaced on Wednesday.

DawgNation reported that Atkins, from Thomson High, had missed the ACT qualification score by two points and will not enroll this fall. However, ugasports.com reported that Atkins qualified and is awaiting confirmation from the NCAA Clearinghouse. Atkins could not be reached, and a phone message with Atkins’ high school coach, Milan Turner, was not immediately returned Wednesday.

Atkins, a 6-foot-4, 300-pound defensive tackle, is one of two interior defensive linemen that Georgia signed for its 2012 recruiting class.
