Georgia diver Laura Ryan and swimmer Rachel Zilinskas have earned Southeastern Conference weekly honors, it was announced Tuesday.
Ryan was chosen as the SEC Female Diver of the Week, while Zilinskas was picked as the SEC Female Freshman of the Week. This marks Ryan‚Äôs second Diver of the Week designation.
In the Georgia Diving Invitational last week, Ryan, a senior from Elk River, Minn., placed first on the 3-meter springboard with 332.40 points and came in second on 1-meter with 305.70 points. She also won the shootout portion of the 1-meter competition. Using prelims results from the invitational as part of Georgia‚Äôs dual meet with NC State on Saturday, Ryan finished first on 1-meter with a season-high 315.30 points and second on 3-meter with 312.15 points.
Zilinskas, a freshman from Indiana, Pa., won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:50.80 against the Wolfpack. She also placed fourth in the 100 backstroke in 56.88 and was on the 200 medley (1:44.90) and 400 freestyle (3:30.81) relays that came in fourth.
Ryan and Zilinskas helped the Lady Bulldogs improve to 7-0 with the win over NC State. The Lady Bulldogs also extended their Georgia all-sports record with their 87th consecutive victory at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
Georgia‚Äôs teams will be back in action Friday at Texas A&M and Saturday at Texas.
Softball announces 2014 schedule
The Georgia softball team will have 30 home dates during the 2014 season, including Southeastern Conference series against Mississippi State, South Carolina, Auburn and Kentucky, according to the schedule released Tuesday.
The squad will travel to take on SEC foes Texas A&M, Missouri, LSU and Alabama for a total if 24 SEC contests. The 2014 slate also features 32 non-conference games, 32 games against 2013 NCAA regional teams and 12 games against teams that made it to the Super Regional Round of the 2013 NCAA tournament.
Georgia kicks off the 2014 slate Feb. 7-9 with the first of four home tournaments. The Seventh Annual Red and Black Showcase will feature teams from North Texas, James Madison and Winthrop. The Bulldogs will be back in action the following weekend when they welcome South Alabama, Mercer and Furman for the 11th Annual Georgia Softball Classic.
The Bulldogs take to the road for the first time Feb. 21-23 when they travel to Orlando, Fla., for the Citrus Classic, played at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
Following the road trip, Georgia returns home for a 15-game home stand that begins Feb. 28 with the Sixth Annual Bulldog Invitational.
Georgia opens SEC play at home March 14-16 when it hosts Mississippi State.
The final SEC road test comes April 24-26 when the Bulldogs make their way to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to take on Alabama.
Georgia wraps up the regular season the following weekend May 2-4 when it hosts Kentucky.
The SEC tournament will be held May 7-10 and will be hosted by South Carolina in Columbia, S.C.
The NCAA Regional weekend is May 16-18, with Super Regionals being held May 24-25. The Women‚Äôs College World Series will be May 29-June 4 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
