You may have noticed that Georgia star tailback Todd Gurley’s game jersey now has the Roman numeral II after his last name on the back.

The sophomore has the same name as his father, who lives in Maryland. He said he wanted Gurley II to be displayed last year but equipment manager John Meshad didn’t approve the added lettering until this season.
“He was like, ‘Man, if I do it for you then I’m going to have to do it for the whole team,’” he said. “I was like, ‘I feel like I deserved it from last year.’ So he was like, ‘Alright, I got you.”
Gurley’s 286 rushing yards this season ranks seventh in the nation, and it came against a pair of top-10 teams in Clemson and South Carolina.
Former Georgia All-American linebacker Jarvis Jones wrote in a tweet: “Gurley for Heisman..I said it first.” He’s not the only one pushing such talk.
“That’s what they think,” Gurley said. “It’s whatever. It’s a good thing. We’ll see how far that goes.”
Gurley said a thigh injury limited him in practice last week, but it didn’t stop him from rushing for 132 yards and a touchdown and having his first career touchdown catch
“My leg was kind of bothering me a lot, but I didn’t tell anyone,” he said. “The trainers and everyone knew, but y’all probably didn’t know. … I knew I’d be ready as soon as the game came around.”
