UGA men’s golf team finishes fourth in Puerto Rico

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico — The No. 9 Georgia men’s golf team finished fourth on Tuesday in the Puerto Rico Classic.

On the Rio Mar Country’s Club River Course, the Bulldogs shot a 6-under-par 282 and wound up at 12-under 852 for the tournament. Team honors went to Alabama at 33-under 831.

T.J. Mitchell and junior Michael Cromie paced the Bulldogs in the final round with 3-under 69s. Keith Mitchell added a 1-under 71 and Nicholas Reach signed for a 1-over 73. Sam Straka had the Bulldogs’ non-counting score of 4-over 76.

Reach and Cromie finished tied for 16th at 2-under 214. North Carolina State’s Albin Choi secured medalist honors at 12-under 204. T.J. Mitchell wound up at even-par 216, followed by Keith Mitchell at 1-over 217 and Straka at 10-over 226.

The Bulldogs will return to action March 8-10 in the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters in Las Vegas.
