UGA men’s basketball team to open season against Georgia Tech

The third weekend in November will provide plenty in the rivalry department for Georgia fans.

The night before Auburn’s football team plays in Athens for the first time since 2011, the Georgia men’s basketball team will open its season in Atlanta against Georgia Tech on Friday Nov. 14 at McCamish Pavilion.

The Bulldogs haven’t started a season against the Yellow Jackets since 1977.

Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity signed a completed contract for the game this week, according to an open records request. SicEmDawgs.com reported the date of the game last week. The tipoff time hasn’t been determined yet.

Georgia Tech has won three straight against the Bulldogs for the first time since 1992-94, but the Bulldogs return all of their top players from last season except starting post player Donte’ Williams from a team that went 20-14.

Georgia Tech, coming off a 16-17 season, suffered a blow when it lost rising junior forward Robert Carter. He is transferring to Maryland.
