Blog: UGA gives Nick Williams permission to talk to schools about transfer

MEMPHIS–Nick Williams remains a Georgia inside linebacker. At least for one more game.

“As of right now, yes he is,” Georgia assistant coach Warren Belin said Wednesday.

Friday’s Liberty Bowl could be the last time Williams is in a Bulldogs uniform.

The junior reserve has been given permission to talk to other schools about transferring, associate athletic director Claude Felton said Wednesday night.

Williams has three tackles in eight games during a season in which he’s battled a hamstring injury.

The Bainbridge native will be granted a release from his scholarship should he make a final determination to go elsewhere.

The 6-2, 220-pound Williams moved to linebacker from safety earlier this season. He bounced around between safety and linebacker in 2008.

Back in September, Williams said the position moves were taking a toll on him.

“It is frustrating, I’m frustrated,” he said then. “They know I’m frustrated.”

“It’s a tough spot for that kid,” coach Mark Richt said then. “It’s unfortunate that he’s not been able to settle into one position.”
