UGA coach Fox waiting for Rome’s basketball plans

Georgia tight end Jay Rome could be back in a Bulldogs basketball uniform in time for the Southeastern Conference opener at Florida on January 9. That’s two days after the college football season ends with the BCS title game.

“I think Jay would like to play again,” Georgia basketball coach Mark Fox said Tuesday. “He obviously has to stay healthy and be OK in the classroom. The plan is for him to continue to play. We realize that won’t be until January. We’ll wait patiently.”

Fox said Rome told him on Monday night that he was shooting some jumpers recently,

“I said, ‘Well, you won’t shoot any for our team. You’re going to rebound,’” Fox said. “We were just joking because he is a pretty good shooter.’”
