UAB’s Friend poised to lead offensive line

University of Alabama-Birmingham offensive line coach Will Friend is poised to hold the same position at Georgia, the Athens Banner-Herald has learned.

Friend is a former All-Southeastern

Conference offensive lineman at

Alabama in the mid-1990s who was a graduate assistant at Georgia in 2003 and 2004.

Background checks were said to still need to be completed before the hire.

One coach who was interested in the opening to replace Stacy Searels said he was told by somebody at Georgia that Friend was in line for the job. That coach said he believed Friend was the only

candidate that was brought in for an interview.

Friend has been the offensive line coach for the past four seasons at UAB under former Georgia offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Neil Callaway.
