Barring injury or a Georgia blowout, chances are Aaron Murray will be the only quarterback playing for the Bulldogs Saturday against Florida in Jacksonville.
There’s still been some chatter about the guys behind Murray this week.
Redshirt junior backup Hutson Mason is in prime position to succeed Murray in 2014, coach Mark Richt said this week. That’s not a shocker, but indicates where things stand for any competition this spring.
“Rarely do we just say it’s his job, but I’ll say this: He’s in really good shape to be that starter,” Richt said on his radio show this week. “He knows the system well, and he’s been ready to play for quite some time. We all have a lot of faith in him.”
Faton Bauta, a redshirt freshman who was the only scholarship quarterback to travel to Vanderbilt besides Murray and Mason, is indeed the No. 3 quarterback now, offensive coordinator Mike Bobo said.
“When we had the scrimmages, the last before the season started, he made more plays and was more productive in those scrimmages and that’s why he went up to No. 3,” Bobo said.
Redshirt sophomore Christian LeMay is working on the scout team and Georgia also has walk-on Parker Welch. Freshman quarterback Brice Ramsey, who could compete for the starting job down the road, is redshirting.
