Surprise, surprise – Bulldogs jump in the pool to break up fall camp grind

The Georgia football team was gathered on the Woodruff Practice Fields Tuesday afternoon for another preseason practice after 10 minutes of walk-through on the field.

Then the players found out practice was off. Ramsey was on.

That’s the annual trip to the Ramsey Student Center pool.

“They really surprised us,” freshman cornerback Malkom Parrish said. “I was excited. The first thing that crossed my mind was thank the Lord. It was hot and I was ready to go jump in some water.”

Some hooting and hollering could be heard down in the team locker room in the Butts-Mehre building as players got ready to board buses for swimming and diving after only going through 10 minutes of walk-through on the field.

The Bulldogs had already practiced 13 times over an 11-day stretch.

It was a cool down on a late afternoon with temperatures hitting 93.

Yes, coach Mark Richt, now 54, did his usual backflip off the 10-meter platform.

Freshman outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter also jumped off the high dive with a life jacket.

“The coaches did a good job of keeping it a secret,” Carter said. “The offensive line are my boys and once I jumped off the high dive, they came to get me out of the water.”
