Samuel becomes busiest of Bulldogs’ backs

Richard Samuel is the busiest running back on the Bulldogs’ roster.

That’s because he’s getting more practice snaps than the rest of the tailbacks and fullbacks because he’s working at both tailback and fullback.

“He’s kind of doing double duty right now,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said. “We had a good discussion on that with him just the other day. The thing about playing two positions is it’s difficult if you’re talking about (defensive back) and wide receiver with Malcolm (Mitchell). …Even in run polish, (Samuel will) get some tailback reps and then jump in there with another group and get a fullback rep. He’s probably getting twice the work of the other backs right now, but he’s in good condition and he wants to know both.”

Meanwhile, freshman tailback Todd Gurley was tested in practice Saturday morning in a pass-protection drill against Alec Ogletree.

“He was struggling like a freshman would, but as the drill went on he got better,” Richt said. “He was just kind of grinning knowing that he’s got a ways to go, but he also knows how important it is and he wants to be good at it.”
