Richt says No. 3 Gators remind him of 2011 LSU squad

Florida enters Saturday’s matchup ranked 25th in the country in rushing, but just 114th in passing. The run-heavy offense that the Gators employ this season under second-year coach Will Muschamp is different from recent Florida teams Richt has coached against.

“There’s a little different style,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said. “The philosophy of defense, kicking and just hammering the football unless (defenses) make (them) do something different — that’s a little bit different than some of the Florida teams in the past.”

Richt said the Gators’ style of football resembles the blueprint of 2011 SEC Champion LSU, who defeated Richt’s Bulldogs 42-10 in the SEC title game.

“Defense, special teams and pound the ball and be patient,” Richt said. “In time, be able to physically take over the game. That’s the way LSU’s been trying to do it. Alabama has been trying to do it that way. Florida is modeling their game after that as well.”
