Richt ditches crutches during signing day events

Richt walked into the signing day news conference Wednesday limping some, but not using crutches.

His wife Katharyn told him not to shed the crutches but “then when I was walking in I had a bunch of cameras on me with crutches, so I threw them off the side and started walking.”

Richt had planned to have the surgery after signing day, but he was persuaded to move it up earlier by Mike Slive.

“To be real honest about it, there’s an SEC head coaches meeting coming up next week and the commissioner thought it would be really important for me to be there,” Richt said. “I pushed things up a little bit. I knew there was a (recruiting) dead period here. I couldn’t physically go anywhere any way.”

Richt said surgery went “great” and he’s moving around “very well.”

“I feel very good,” he said. “A little bit better than I thought I’d be feeling by today, so that’s a blessing.”
