The number of days left until signing day can now be counted on two hands, making this next week the most important of the recruiting season.
Georgia’s coaching staff added two defensive coaches last week – Tracy Rocker and Kevin Sherrer – and both will get their opportunity to prove themselves as the group makes its last push on the remaining names on the recruiting board.
Rocker grew up in Atlanta, and, through his previous Southeastern Conference employers, has recruiting experience and familiarity with the region’s coaches.
His recruiting skills have come into question because his most recent job was in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans, but he will get a say in the matter with the finishing touches being put on this year’s group while laying the foundation for 2015.
At this point, the look of the 2014 class will remain relatively the same by the time Feb. 5 has come and passed with only a handful of names floating around to potentially be added to the list.
The biggest name continues to be Norcross defensive end Lorenzo Carter, and this week will be the Bulldogs’ final opportunity to get the pendulum to swing in their favor.
Coach Mark Richt is expected to make an in-home visit on tonight before entertaining Carter and his family in Athens next weekend.
Georgia’s head coach will make another in-home visit on Tuesday, making the trek to see Cedar Grove outside linebacker Bryson Allen-Williams. Both Alabama and Georgia have been working overtime trying to poach the South Carolina commit.
Allen-Williams and his family were in Tuscaloosa, Ala., this past weekend, and he is expected to take his official visit to Athens this upcoming weekend.
Former Georgia defensive back Chris Sanders’ younger brother, Dominick, has been drawing some attention recently. The Tucker native is listed as an athlete with skills and experience that lend itself to a number of positions. His lack of size could limit him from playing on the defensive side of the ball, but his speed and vision could make him an asset as a wide receiver or kick returner.
Dominick committed to Central Florida earlier this month, but told Rivals he plans to take his official visit to Athens this weekend even though the Bulldogs have not offered him a scholarship.
