Martin Luther King Day might be a national holiday, but don’t tell Georgia coach Mark Richt that.
On the heels of receiving commitment No. 17 for this year’s class — junior college wide receiver Rico Johnson — Richt and his staff were back on the trail Monday morning.
The farthest trip of the day was a trek to Avon, Conn., to visit class of 2015 tight end Chris Clark. Richt made the flight to New England with tight ends coach John Lilly, and spoke to Clark as well as his coach, William Mella.
Richt told Mella that he believes Clark is “the best tight end in 2015” and is a “priority” for the Bulldogs to sign, according to Sports247. Clark is listed at 6-foot-6, 245 pounds and would certainly remind Georgia fans of  former tight end Arthur Lynch, who grew up in Dartmouth, Mass.
Clark said that Ohio State is his leading candidate, but Georgia is not far behind, according to Sports 247.
Lilly did not rest, joining offensive line coach Will Friend on an in-home visit to Heard County offensive guard Jake Edwards. The trip to Franklin was most likely nothing more than a check-in with the already committed 6-foot-4 lineman as signing day approaches.
Rivals reported that newly committed 2015 cornerback Terry Godwin was expecting a visit from Georgia’s coaches on Monday. He got to share the good news with the staff over the phone last week, allowing Monday’s visit to be a celebratory one.
On Tuesday, Richt took Friend and running backs coach Bryan McClendon to Apopka, Fla., to visit two recruits from next year’s class, offensive tackle Martez Ivey and fullback Chandler Cox.
Ivey is a five-star recruit being courted by numerous top programs around the country, but Georgia hasn’t expressed much interest until now.
Cox is regarded as one of the top fullbacks in Florida, but like Ivey, hasn’t had the Bulldogs on his radar until Tuesday’s visit.
The latest movements of the coaching staff indicate that they might be content with where the current class is, focusing more on the foundation for 2015 over the last few days.
