Recruiting blog: Bulldogs near top 10 after landing McGraw, Godwin

The steam of good news has remained steady for Georgia since the arrival of Jeremy Pruitt.

Within a span of two days, the Bulldogs reeled in two defensive back commitments for the class of 2015. The first was Rico McGraw from Nashville, Tenn., on Thursday, and then on Saturday came the news that Terry Godwin out of Hogansville. would be taking his talents to Athens.

Both were coveted by a number of top programs including Alabama, Auburn and Clemson.

McGraw, one of the top prospects in Tennessee, made his announcement via Twitter barely 24 hours after receiving a scholarship offer from the Bulldogs.

Godwin is one of three five-star athletes in the state, playing both wide receiver and cornerback for Callaway High school.

The two commitments bring next year’s total to three, and moved the Bulldogs up six spots up to No. 12 on 247sports’ composite class ranking.

Aside from the announcements for next season, the main focus for Georgia’s coaching staff this weekend was entertaining the current recruits taking their official visits. The most important of the bunch were Athens were Tavon Ross and Rico Johnson.

A Gym Dogs meet against LSU on Friday night and a men’s basketball game versus Arkansas on Saturday afternoon served as a few of the highlights of the weekend for the group.

After the hurdles Johnson has gone through since his original commitment to the Bulldogs, the junior college recruit has been entertaining Maryland, Marshall and Middle Tennessee State.

Shattle Fenteng — who has already announced his decision to attend Georgia — made the trip to Athens over weekend and came away with nothing but positive reviews.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound cornerback told 247sports that he spoke in depth with Pruitt about early playing time and got to spend time with a number of Georgia’s defensive backs including Tray Matthews, Shaq Wiggins, Quincy Mauger and Corey Moore. Rising sophomore Shaun McGee was his host during the trip.
