Quick hitters: Freshman McKenzie competing with UGA stars to return kicks

When asked about Bulldogs freshman Isaiah McKenzie returning kicks, assistant coach Tony Ball also mentioned five other candidates starting with Todd Gurley. The star running back hasn’t returned a kick since 2012 when he returned a kickoff 100 yards against Buffalo. He had seven for 243 yards that season. “Everyone’s a possibility,” Ball said. “Anybody that can help us win.” Ball also mentioned Reggie Davis, Sony Michel and Malcolm Mitchell and Justin Scott-Wesley when available. …McKenzie and Reggie Davis are the possibilities at punt returner. The fact that McKenzie is a freshman won’t keep him out of the lineup. “He’ll figure it out,” Ekeler said. “You’d probably like to have one but if there’s two guys that are pretty equal and you want to get a look at them, it’s like rotating quarterbacks.”
