He was asked by a Twitter follower afterwards “do you think you will be ready game 1?” His answer: “yep 100percent positive.”

Matthews has been sidelined or limited for much of the preseason with hamstring and shoulder injuries. The freshman is expected to start at free safety if available.

Elsewhere in the secondary, safety Corey Moore (sprained knee) remains out. Cornerback Sheldon Dawson is still practicing in non-contact with a shoulder injury, safety Shaquille Fluker (back) returned to practice without contact and cornerback Devin Bowman (hamstring) was out.

Added to the injury list on Monday was starting receiver Malcolm Mitchell, listed with swelling to his right knee. That’s the same knee he had surgery on this spring for a torn meniscus. He wasn’t at practice. Receivers in non-contact: Chris Conley (shoulder), Rantavious Wooten (hamstring), Reggie Davis (knee) and Rhett McGowan (ankle).

Nose guard Chris Mayes (concussion) returned to practice without contact.

Georgia has four 2014 commitments in the top 100 in the latest Rivals.com rankings: running back Sonny Michel from Plantation, Fla., is No. 8, running back Nick Chubb from Cedartown is No. 61, quarterback Jacob Park from Goose Creek, S.C., is No. 76 and defensive back Malkom Parrish from Brooks County is No. 78.
