Safety Tray Matthews is back practicing for Georgia.
Just in time for Clemson game week.
Mark Richt said last week that he thought there was a good chance Matthews would play against Clemson. Matthews, who has been out with a strained hamstring and earlier with a shoulder injury, has been positive on Twitter about his return.
The question, of course, will be what all that practice time missed might mean for the freshman who was the talk of the spring.
Matthews isn’t doing much in this video clip except throwing a ball in the air and hanging out with other defensive backs.
Later on, in this video, he goes through a drill, lining up behind Josh Harvey-Clemons.
I did see him move at pretty good speed with some acceleration later when I was walking away.
Elsewhere in the secondary, safety Shaquille Fluker is in a regular jersey after being sidelined with a strained groin and illness.
Safety Corey Moore (ankle sprain) is still missing.
“Doing the hyperbaric chamber today for the first time,” he tweeted this afternoon.
I didn’t notice right guard Chris Burnette at practice, but didn’t look at the linemen for too long. Kolton Houston was working at right tackle and John Theus at right guard when the media viewing period began. UPDATE: Burnette said tonight he was held out as a precaution following offseason shoulder surgery, but expects to play Saturday.
Receiver Rhett McGowan (ankle sprain) is in a non-contact jersey.
Georgia is practicing in full pads today like it usually does on a Tuesday game week, but Richt said last week he didn’t expect to tackle again in practice before the opener.
It will work out again on Tuesday and then have two “dress rehearsal practices in hopes of getting everyone’s legs back,” Richt said.
