Pitcher Jared Cheek to join Baseball Program

Junior college pitcher Jared Cheek will be transferring to Georgia and joining the Bulldog baseball program for the 2014 season, coach David Perno announced Thursday.

Cheek, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound Athens native, is a sophomore right-handed pitcher at Florence-Darlington Technical College in Florence, S.C. He posted a 5-4 mark and 2.75 ERA for the Stingers and coach Preston McDonald. Cheek earned the Top Pitcher Award after tallying 59 innings pitched with 58 strikeouts and 21 walks for the Stingers who went 27-25.

“We are excited to have Jared returning home to join the Bulldogs after we recruited him out of high school,” Perno said. “He is a good student who has done well at junior college. He will be a good addition to the program and will help our pitching staff.”
