Blog: One position battle to watch at G-Day

John Theus hasn’t budged from the starting offensive left tackle spot for Georgia this spring.

The left guard spot next to him is another matter.

Mark Beard. Zach DeBell. Brandon Kublanow.

All have taken first-team reps at left guard for offensive line coach Will Friend. Even right tackle Kolton Houston has seen some there, Theus said.

It’s one position worth watching in Saturdays G-Day game.

“There’s really been some rotating over there,” Theus said. “The guys are coming along. I don’t know what coach is going to do come this weekend. There have been a decent bit of guys getting reps over there.”

DeBell and Kublanow seem to be competing for the left guard spot now while Greg Pyke works as the first-team right guard. Beard is now backing up Theus at left tackle.

“Any of those guys, they’re good players,” Theus said. “They know what they’re doing. We communicate well so whatever he decides is best is fine with me.”
