Blog: Former UGA linebacker Alec Ogletree arrested for DUI, agent says

Former Georgia inside linebacker Alec Ogletree will have more questions to answer from teams leading up to April’s NFL draft after more off-field trouble.

Ogletree was arrested last weekend in Arizona on a DUI charge, his agent Pat Dye Jr. told Pro Football Talk in a story posted late Saturday night.

Ogletree, who was projected as a likely first-round draft pick, entered the NFL draft after a junior year that began with him serving a four-game suspension for reportedly failing a drug test. He led Georgia with 111 tackles last season.

“Last weekend, my client Alec Ogletree was pulled over for speeding and a lane violation in Arizona,” Dye told Pro Football Talk. “After the officers smelled alcohol, they conducted tests and also cited him for DUI. Although Alec regrets the incident terribly, he is thankful that there was no accident and that no one was hurt. Because this matter is still pending, we cannot comment further publicly at this time.”

Ogletree was suspended to start the 2010 season after being charged with theft for taking a motorcycle helmet that belonged to a Georgia track athlete.

Ogletree, from Newnan, is projected as the No. 8 overall pick in the latest ESPN mock drafts by Mel Kiper and No. 19 overall by Todd McShay.

This is the second year in a row that a Georgia underclassmen who entered the draft was arrested on a DUI charge.

Tight end Orson Charles slipped to the fourth round last year before Cincinnati selected him.
