Blog: Men’s hoops adds another nonconference foe

Georgia has added another nonconference game to the men’s basketball team’s 2012-13 schedule.

The Bulldogs will play Iona on Dec. 15 in Stegeman Coliseum, according to a contract signed June 5 that was obtained in an open records request.

Iona went 25-8 last season, losing to BYU in the NCAA tournament in a “First Four” game in Dayton. The Gaels, a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference team from New Rochelle, N.Y., received their first ever at-large bid to the tournament. This will be their first meeting against Georgia.

Georgia’s nonconference schedule is nearly complete. It also includes home games against Southern California, George Washington, Jacksonville, East Tennessee State, Mercer and Florida A&M and two games against opponents still to be announced as part of the Legends Classic.

The Bulldogs will play two games in Brooklyn in that tournament in a field with Georgetown, Indiana and UCLA, play at South Florida in the SEC/Big East Challenge and at Georgia Tech.
