LB Robinson remembers hit against UT’s Bray last year

Christian Robinson got on Barbara Dooley’s bad side for inadvertently knocking out her son’s quarterback for more than a month in last year’s Georgia game against Tennessee.

Tyler Bray missed five games with a broken right thumb after he hit his hand on the Georgia linebacker’s helmet on a pass in the fourth quarter of the 20-12 Georgia win in Knoxville.

“I don’t think it was much of my doing,” Robinson said. “He’s just a very confident guy. I didn’t think he was going to throw the ball that he did and his hand kind of just smacked my facemask and I was shocked. … I had some family and friends back home that weren’t too happy about that and Mrs. Dooley got mad at me. The next day she wouldn’t talk to me.”

Robinson and Dooley, wife of former Georgia coach Vince Dooley and mother of Vols coach Derek Dooley, spent time together last year. Barbara was recovering from a knee replacement and Robinson was working back from a foot injury.

Bray leads the Southeastern Conference with 12 touchdown passes and is second in passing yards per game at 325.2. Robinson said he thought ‘Uh-oh’ when Bray cringed after the play.

“I’m not going after anybody,” he said. “This is not the Saints or anything.”
