Inside linebacker Ryne Rankin, an early enrollee from near Orlando, is set to practice for the first time today. He was on hand on Friday.
“He was going through the physical exam and all that kind of stuff,” coach Mark Richt said. “He’ll get his first taste (of practice).”
Richt called Rankin a “very physical guy, very tough. Hard-nosed, tough, sturdily built guy who likes contact. A very good kid.”
With Georgia losing seniors Mike Gilliard and Christian Robinson and likely junior Alec Ogletree, Richt said getting inside linebackers enrolling in January “helps. There’s probably a couple of spots where it’s not as crucial to get them here in the midyear. Definitely linebacker is one of those positions where it ought to help him.”
