Lady Dogs release 2012-13 schedule; Landers could win No. 800 at home

Andy Landers could break the 800-win plateau at Georgia in Stegeman Coliseum this November.

Landers is five wins shy of No. 800 and the Lady Bulldogs play their first five games of the 2012-13 season in Athens as Georgia released its official schedule on Friday.

Georgia opens the season against Rutgers on Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. It’s next three games are against Presbyterian, South Carolina State and Belmont. Game No. 5, which could be the clincher, will be on Nov. 20 against Savannah State at Stegeman Coliseum at 7 p.m. Georgia’s first road games will be at the New Mexico Thanksgiving Tournament in Albuquerque, N.M. against Saint Bonaventure on Nov. 23 and either New Mexico or North Texas on Nov. 24.

Georgia begins Southeastern Conference play at home against Missouri on Jan. 3, followed by a trip to Tennessee on Jan.6.

Georgia’s nonconference schedule road trips to Georgia Tech (Dec. 2), Texas Christian (Dec. 19) and Illinois (Dec. 28). The season will conclude at home against rival Vanderbilt on March 3.

Landers goes into his 34th season at Georgia with 795 wins. He is 23 wins short of No. 900 in his college coaching career which includes four seasons at two-year Roane State before he took over Georgia. The NCAA does not recognize wins at two-year colleges.

The season-opener against Rutgers will match Landers against Scarlet Knights coach Vivian Stringer. Since Pat Summitt retired at the end of last season, the Georgia-Rutgers game will match the coaches with the No. 1 and No. 3 totals for NCAA Division I career victories. Stringer has 885 and Landers has 877.
