Jarvis Jones named AP SEC Defensive Player of the Year; 5 other Bulldogs on All-SEC team

Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones has been named The Associated Press’ Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year and was a unanimous first-team selection and five other Georgia players made the All-SEC team released Monday afternoon.

Tailback Todd Gurley, who became the first true freshman to rush for more than 1,000 yards since Herschel Walker did it in 1980, was the Bulldogs’ only other first-team selection.

Defensive tackle John Jenkins, linebacker Alec Ogletree and safety Bacarri Rambo were second-team selections, and quarterback Aaron Murray was named to the honorable mention squad.

Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel was named the Offensive Player of the Year and the Freshman of the Year, and Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin was named Coach of the Year.
