Hoffa breaks own shot put record in Athens

Former Georgia All-American and two-time Olympian shot putter Reese Hoffa topped his own facility record in the shot put at the Spec Towns Track to win the second Athens High Performance Center Shot Put Competition on Friday.

Hoffa watched his third attempt with the 16-pound shot travel 70 feet, 11 3/4 inches to win the competition. Hoffa, who had four fouls in his six-throw series, topped his previous facility record mark of 70-9 set earlier this year.

Taiwan’s Ming-Huang Chang topped his own national record to take third in the competition. Chang, who trains alongside Hoffa with Georgia throws coach Don Babbitt, worked to a throw of 67-6 1/4 on his fourth throw.

Another of Hoffa’s training partners in Athens, two-time Olympic silver medalist Adam Nelson, was the runner-up in the competition with a mark of 70-4 1/2.
