Georgia Gym Dogs signee Brittany Rogers finished seventh in the finals of the Olympic women’s individual vault competition on Sunday at the North Greenwich Arena.
Rogers had helped Canada make the team finals in a non-boycotted Olympic Games for the first time since 1984 last week. On Sunday she scored 14.483 points to take seventh in vault during the artistic gymnastics individual apparatus finals.
Romania’s Sandra Raluca Izbasa was first (15.191), America’s McKayla Maroney was second (15.083) and Russia’s Maria Paseka was third (15.050) on vault.
Over at the Olympic Stadium, former Georgia athlete Kibwe Johnson took ninth in the men’s hammer throw finals with a distance of 245 feet, 10 3/4 inches. Johnson threw 240-6 1/4 in the first round and 245-10 3/4 in the second round. He did not record a distance on the third throw and did not advance to the final three rounds.
Hungary’s Krisztian Pars won gold at 264-4 3/4, Primoz Kozmus from Slovenia was second at 260-4 3/8 and Japan’s Koji Murofushi was third at 258-2 3/4.
