Six gymnasts performed on vault, and there were seven routines on bars, beam and floor. The top five scores on each event were counted for the overall team score. Georgia gymnasts registered 10 scores of 9.9 or higher, including a perfect 10 by Lindsey Cheek on the balance beam. The senior added a 9.925 on vault and a 9.9 on bars.

“Overall I am very, very proud of the team,” coach Danna Durante said in a release. “The energy was great, and I think the fans had a great time. We had a couple of mistakes, but they were mistakes that we will definitely learn from. I thought the freshmen performed well. The team knew they had the ability to compete like this, so we’ll go into our break next week with a lot of confidence.”

Former Gym Dogs Heather Stepp McCormick and Grace Taylor Johnson served as judges for the competition.

The Gym Dogs’ highest event score was on beam, where they turned in a 49.575. In addition to Cheek’s 10.0, Brittany Rogers scored a 9.95 and freshman Ashlyn Broussard added a 9.9.

Georgia scored a 49.5 to start the meet on vault. Brandie Jay led the team with a 9.95, while Cat Hires had a 9.9. A 49.375 on bars gave the Gym Dogs a 98.875 total at the halfway point.

Jay and Kaylan Earls paced the team with a pair of 9.95s on floor, and the team closed the competition with a 49.475 in the final rotation.

“I think it went great today,” Cheek said. “Everyone did what we’ve been doing in practice, and I was excited to see that. I can’t wait for us to start the season against Oklahoma and put it into work there.”

The Gym Dogs will practice two more times before the Christmas break. The season officially starts at Oklahoma on Jan. 10, followed by a trip to Stanford on Jan. 12. The home opener will be Jan. 17 against LSU.
