Grantham: Washington a team player, making important contributions

Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham had high praise for outside linebacker/defensive end Cornelius Washington this week.

“I think he’s played well in the things we’ve asked him to do,” Grantham said. “He’s been a team guy. He has played end, outside linebacker and inside in our nickel stuff, too. He’s shown up a little bit. Sometimes it doesn’t show to the naked eye.”

Washington has started five games this season, racking up 15 tackles and three tackles for loss, but the senior recorded just one solo tackle in since the Missouri game and went without a tackle against Florida Atlantic and Vanderbilt.

“He’s played well,” Grantham said. “He doesn’t always get the production plays that make the stats.”

Washington has recorded eight quarterback hurries this season, which ties him for second on the team with Jenkins.

“I think last week was a good week to get him healthy. He was a little banged up. As we move forward, him getting healthy will allow him to be the kind of guy you’re looking for,” Grantham said. “He’s given us everything he’s got, and I think he’s going to help us in the future with what he’s doing.”
