Grantham using UF’s loss to Ga. Southern as teaching point for defense

Todd Grantham has a fresh example to use about the difficulties that a triple-option offense can present.

Right down to the precise relevant statistic.

“Obviously it’s a tough offense,” the Georgia defensive coordinator said. “I think Georgia Southern had like 429 or something on Florida. They run similar offenses. We saw both of those offenses last year. It’s a tough offense.”

Georgia Southern, coached by former Yellow Jackets assistant Jeff Monken, rolled up those 429 rushing yards on 57 rushes in a stunning upset of Florida on Saturday. The Eagles did not complete a pass in three attempts.

Georgia held Georgia Southern to 318 rushing yards last year on Nov. 17 in a 45-14 win and then gave up 306 rushing yards to Georgia Tech a week later in a 42-10 victory.

The Bulldogs are practicing in full pads all week to prepare for the triple-option.
