Georgia’s Ryan named to Olympic Performance Squad

Georgia’s Laura Ryan has been chosen as one of the 26 divers named to the Olympic Performance Squad, USA Diving announced Thursday.

The Olympic Performance Squad is made up of divers with the skill and potential to advance to the 2016 Games in Brazil. OPS members were selected based on performances the last two years or those who have been deemed as synchronized specialists by the High Performance Director.

Ryan, a junior from Elk River, Minn., won gold medals in synchro platform at the USA Diving Winter Nationals in 2010 and 2012 and the AT&T National Championships in 2010 as well as in 3-meter synchro at the 2012 National Championships. She also medaled at the 2011 Winter Nationals and the 2012 USA Diving Grand Prix in synchro events and the 2012 National Championships on 3-meter springboard.

Ryan has Georgia’s top efforts this season on both springboards and on platform, with NCAA Zone qualifying scores on all three boards. Ryan boasts the SEC’s top score on platform this year and she is the only diver in the league in the top four on each board.

Ryan and the Georgia squads will take on Alabama and South Carolina in Tuscaloosa on Saturday at noon.
