Georgia’s bats catch fire as Dogs rout UAB

Scoring early and often, Georgia posted a season-high 21 hits Friday — including a school-record-tying three triples — with a decisive 14-2 victory over UAB at Foley Field.

Kyle Farmer led the Bulldogs (3-6) with a career-high five hits and Hunter Cole added three hits and four RBIs. The first four hitters in the Georgia lineup went a combined 14-for-21.

Sean McLaughlin (2-0) picked up the victory on the mound, pitching five innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk. Blake Dieterich pitched four strong relief innings, allowing three hits.

The Bulldogs scored four runs in the first inning and four runs in the eighth inning. Georgia had six players with multi-hit games, including Farmer, Cole, Nelson Ward (four hits, two runs, one RBI), Curt Powell (two hits, three runs, two RBIs), Jared Walsh (three hits, one run, two RBIs) and Cody Sheedy (two hits, one RBI).

The series continues today with first pitch set for 4 p.m.
