There’s a saying after a coaching hire about the new guy “winning the press conference.”
Jeremy Pruitt, Georgia’s freshly minted defensive coordinator, will meet the media in the Bulldogs’ team meeting room at about 11 a.m. today.
He’s already won before the press conference.
Mark Richt’s hire has been embraced by Georgia fans.
What’s not to like in the afterglow of getting a 39-year old who has coached on staffs of the last three national champions: as defensive coordinator at Florida State in 2013 and secondary coach Alabama in 2012 and 2011?
Bernies Dawg Blawg put it like this: “(W)hile there is much left to prove on the field, today we can take a breath and celebrate a giant, impressive and definite step in the right direction.”
Former Atlanta Falcon Alge Crumpler, now with 790 The Zone, tweeted: “Good Morning #Dawg Fans. Two Thumbs up on the Jeremy Pruitt D Coordinator hire but what say you?”
Of course, producing a winning defense in the fall and not making a splash in January is what Georgia hired Pruitt to do.
Pruitt today could have answers on if any changes are coming to his defensive staff, where inside linebackers coach Kirk Olivadotti and defensive line coach Chris Wilson are holdovers.
Richt is also expected to be on hand to talk about Pruitt and what went into moving so swiftly to nab Pruitt after Todd Grantham left for Louisville over the weekend.
