Blog: Georgia tailback Ealey back in good standing

Georgia junior tailback Washaun Ealey’s suspension from the team is over.

Less than three weeks after Georgia announced that Ealey was suspended from team activities indefinitely, Ealey has been reinstated to full team standing, coach Mark Richt said in a statement this afternoon.

“Over the past few weeks, Washaun has done the things we expect all our players to do,” Richt said. “He’s been doing things the Georgia way, and will rejoin team activities Monday.”

That clears the way for Ealey to join his teammates when Georgia begins spring practices on March 10.

Ealey led Georgia in rushing the past two seasons, but could face a reduced role when Carver Columbus tailback Isaiah Crowell joins the team this summer.

Richt said on signing day earlier this month that he planned for Crowell, rated by some as the nation’s No. 1 tailback, to be used “heavily,” and wouldn’t be shocked if he gets the first carry against Boise State in the season opener. Ealey’s suspension was announced the following week on Feb. 8, reportedly after he failed to report for a punishment run.

Ealey, a Stillmore, Ga., product rushed for 811 yards and 11 touchdowns last season, but Georgia finished 10th in the SEC in rushing.
