Georgia Southern game moved up to 2015

Georgia has completed its 2015 nonconference football schedule by moving up its game with Georgia Southern a year, Bulldogs athletic director Greg McGarity confirmed Friday.

Georgia Southern will come to Athens on Nov. 21, 2015. Georgia will pay the now FBS school $850,000, an increase of $325,000 from what was in the previous contract for a game that was scheduled for Nov. 19, 2016.

“It fills a spot in our ’15 nonconference schedule and helped Georgia Southern with their scheduling so it’s a win-win,” McGarity said.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and SicEmDawgs.com first reported the change.

Georgia Southern is moving up from the FCS level. FBS schools usually get more in guarantees in one-game contracts.

“The bottom line trying to find a nonconference opponent in 2015 is kind of late in the game now,” McGarity said. “It filled a spot in ’15. We have a spot in ’16 but at least we have time to work on it.”

Georgia’s nonconference schedule in 2015 includes home games with Southern (Sept. 5), Louisiana-Monroe (Nov. 7) and a game at Georgia Tech (Nov. 28).

Georgia is 5-0 all-time against Georgia Southern, which stunned Florida 26-20 on Nov. 23, 2013.
