Georgia Southern All-America defensive tackle Brent Russell could return from suspension Saturday when the Eagles play at Georgia.
“We’ll see what happens by the end of the week,” Eagles coach Jeff Monken said.
Russell, who played at Madison County High, missed the Eagles’ last game after being suspended indefinitely after an arrest outside a campus bar for disorderly conduct and obstruction of a law officer.
Russell, the Southern Conference defensive player of the year last year, returned to practice Monday.
He has 32 tackles, 7½ tackles for loss and 3½ sacks this year.
“He’s a big, strong, tough hard-nose kid that plays with a lot of energy,” Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo said. “Talking to other guys in this league they say he’s a good player so he’s a guy we have to know where he’s at.”
