Georgia roster depleted leading into scrimmage

Georgia will hold its first preseason scrimmage Wednesday morning, but the Bulldogs should be without more than 15 players judging by the extensive injury list released Tuesday night.

Besides a rash of injuries at outside linebacker, new injuries that came after Monday’s first full-pads practice include tight end Jay Rome (sprained ankle), nose guard Chris Mayes (concussion), offensive guards Watts Dantzler (leg contusion) and Greg Pyke (sprained ankle), receivers Rantavious Wooten (strained hamstring) and Blake Tibbs (sprained shoulder) and safety Quincy Mauger (strained hamstring).

Georgia coach Mark Richt said none of the injuries are believed to be a long-term issue.

Safety Tray Matthews (sprained shoulder) took part in Georgia’s non-contact practice Tuesday evening, but is still listed as “no contact” on the injury report.
