Chalk up another rivalry win for the Bulldogs.

Georgia Redcoat Marching Band members take on members of the Georgia Tech marching band in an 11-on-11, no-pad, tackle football game Saturday at Southeast Clarke Park.
The Georgia Redcoat Marching Band football team defeated their rivals, an unofficial group of Georgia Tech marching band members, 21-6 on Saturday at Southeast Clarke Park in the latest installment of the decades-old Band Bowl series.
Here’s a link to a column I wrote for Saturday’s edition of the Banner-Herald, detailing some of the game’s background. As far as I can tell, this game has been played on and off since at least the 1970s. I’m no Georgia historian, and I can’t find much in the way of records, so if you have some insight into the origins of the series or participated in it back then, send me an email at christopher.c.white@onlineathens.com.
By the way, I made it a point to say the members of the Georgia Tech marching band are there in an unofficial capacity. Their school has not sanctioned the game and they have asked me to be very clear about that. They just happened to be Georgia Tech marching band members playing football together. It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt and sues the school, as they say.
Here’s some very windy video and a link to a photo gallery.
