Georgia landed in the top 15 in the preseason college football coaches‚Äô poll for the third straight season.
The Bulldogs checked in at No. 12 Thursday when what‚Äôs now called the Amway Coaches Poll was released.
Georgia began last season ranked No. 5 in the coaches‚Äô poll but ended it unranked after a 24-19 Gator Bowl loss to Nebraska dropped its record to 8-5. The Bulldogs were No. 6 in 2012 and ended the season No. 4.
This is Georgia‚Äôs lowest preseason ranking since it was No. 22 entering the 2011 campaign, a season it reached the SEC title game.
The coaches‚Äô poll used to be part of the the formula for picking the teams to play in the BCS national championship game. This year the college football playoff‚Äôs four teams will be chosen by a selection committee.
Georgia, which returns star tailback Todd Gurley and eight starters on defense, opens the season with two top 20 teams: No. 16 Clemson and No. 9 South Carolina.
The Bulldogs‚Äô schedule includes just one other team ranked in the preseason: No. 5 Auburn.
Georgia doesn‚Äôt play the other three ranked teams from the SEC in the regular season: No. 2 Alabama, No. 13 LSU and No. 19 Ole Miss. Defending national champion Florida State is ranked No. 1.
Georgia‚Äôs Mark Richt is one of 62 head coaches voting in the poll.
