Below are the statistics from Georgia’s practice game scrimmage tonight at Sanford Stadium.
They are all from the “Georgia” frontline players that went up against the scout-teamers from “Clemson”
Clemson was spotted a 28-0 lead in a scrimmage that started in the third quarter. Georgia went ahead 35-34, but Clemson roared back to go up six with a couple minutes to go.
Georgia went down field to win with a couple of seconds to go on an Aaron Murray TD pass to tight end Arthur Lynch.
Georgia won 42-41 in what Mark Richt called a “barn-burner.”
We’ll have a report from the scrimmage and some notes on the website later.
Here are some updates:
–Georgia’s secondary got Damian Swann back, but the defensive backs missing still included: cornerback Sheldon Dawson (shoulder sprain), safety Tray Matthews (strained hamstring), safety Corey Moore (sprained knee), safety Shaquille Fluker (illness), cornerback Devin Bowman (strained hamstring).
–J.J. Green was a standout on a night Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall didn’t get a carry. Green had 62 rushing yards on 12 carries. The 5-foot-9 Green ran over a safety at one time, getting players excited, Richt said.
–Freshman inside linebacker Johnny O’Neal could have coaches reconsidering putting him on the scout team. “I saw Johnny O’Neal on Clemson’s defense make some good sticks, knocking some people back.”
–Brendan Langley and Shaq Wiggins continue to make plays. Both had interceptions. Wiggins returned his 17 yards for a touchdown.
“Those guys are getting some reps with the varsity and making some plays,” Richt said. “That was good. …They do have some ballskills.”
–Don’t ask Richt about extra points. He’s not saying who made the winning one in the scrimmage.
“I can’t tell you,” Richt said. “Secret stuff.”
Yep. Marshall Morgan’s suspension games continue. Richt hasn’t said if he is indeed suspended for the opener.
–Richt said that Georgia’s starting defense got scored on in one legitimate drive against the scout teamers. “It was a good mix of run and pass,” Richt said. The Georgia offense was forced to punt twice.
–Receivers that did not scrimmage: Jonathon Rumph (hamstring), Rhett McGowan (ankle) and Rantavious Wooten (hamstring).
–Georgia will hold a situational scrimmage Thursday afternoon, focused particularly on kicking.
