Blog: Georgia gets early SEC hoops road tests at Missouri, Florida (with Bulldogs full SEC schedule)

Georgia will open its Southeastern Conference men’s basketball season on the road at Missouri, play at Florida the following week and visit Kentucky before the end of January, according to the Bulldogs’ league schedule obtained under an open records request.

The Bulldogs entire 18-game conference slate viewed in its entirety actually could be seen as not overly demanding.

Georgia, which lost NBA lottery pick Kentavious Caldwell-Pope from a team that went 15-17 last season, only plays one game against Florida, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Alabama and Tennessee, teams that finished in the top five of the SEC standings last season.

The Wildcats and Gators are considered possible top five teams nationally. The Volunteers are projected by some as top 20.

Alabama visits Stegeman Coliseum for the Bulldogs’ SEC home opener on Saturday Jan. 11 after the Bulldogs play at Missouri on Wednesday Jan. 8.

As Bulldogs coach Mark Fox mentioned this spring, Georgia’s home schedule won’t include Florida, Tennessee and Kentucky.

“They’ve been just great draws for us,” Fox said.

Georgia plays two games against Missouri, Arkansas, South Carolina, LSU and Mississippi State.

Georgia has a stretch from Jan. 18 to Feb. 8 when it plays five of seven games at home, but the Bulldogs close out SEC play with four of its final six games on the road, including the regular season finale at LSU on March 8.

Georgia has agreed to play this season at Colorado, according to the Boulder Daily Camera, but UGA said no contract has been finalized.

There has been one nonconference scheduling change.

The game against Gardner-Webb has been pushed back a day to Dec. 19 for an 11:30 a.m. tipoff. Georgia had a morning tip-off last season designed for area schoolchildren to attend.

Game times for SEC games have not been released.
