ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers plan to purchase the contract of right-hander Justin Grimm from Double-A Frisco to start Saturday night against Houston.
The Rangers said Thursday that the promotion of Grimm, a former Georgia ace, for his major league debut and other corresponding moves will be made before Saturday’s game.
When Grimm is purchased, Texas plans to put right-hander Koji Uehara on the 15-day disabled list to clear a spot on the 25-man roster. Uehara’s move will be retroactive to Sunday, a day after the reliever sustained a strained back muscle pitching at San Francisco.
To get Grimm on the 40-man roster, the Rangers will transfer right-hander Neftali Feliz from the 15-day to 60-day disabled list.
Grimm will start in place of righty Alexi Ogando, on the DL with a strained groin sustained Sunday.
