Sheldon Dawson’s high school coach said the Memphis cornerback could announce his college choice on Monday.
“Right now I think Georgia’s the team to beat,” Ridgeway coach Duron Sutton said after Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and secondary coach Scott Lakatos visited Wednesday. “If you ask me, I think that’s where he’s going. That’s what he’s told me at the present time.”
Ole Miss, Cincinnati and Ohio State were still recruiting him, Sutton said. Dawson had a visit scheduled for Ole Miss this weekend.
Georgia doesn’t have a defensive back commitment in this class.
The Georgia coaches spent time with Dawson and his father Wednesday. Coach Mark Richt and Grantham were in Memphis last week on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The 6-foot, 180-pound Dawson was a Memphis commitment. He’s rated as No. 11 cornerback nationally by Scout.com

Todd Gurley left today for Texas.
The Georgia running back commitment from Tarboro, N.C., isn’t on any official visit. He’s heading there to begin practicing for the International Bowl.
Gurley will spend Wednesday’s national signing day playing in the 6 p.m. ET game from Austin. The game will be shown on the CBS Sports Network.
The game matches a USA team against a world team. Players from 20 countries will be represented.
The game has scheduled a USA team signing day breakfast at Austin Marriott South at 9:15 a.m. ET. Gurley said he’ll fax over his letter of intent to Georgia.
Other players headed to SEC schools in the game: defensive back Ray Buchanan Jr. (Arkansas), linebacker Ronnie Feist (LSU), offensive lineman Joe Harris (South Carolina), defensive end Gimil President (Auburn) and kicker-punter Colby Cooke (Vanderbilt),

A couple of non-recruiting items.
A reminder: cornerback Brandon Boykin, offensive linemen Cordy Glen and Ben Jones and punter Drew Butler will play for the South team in the Senior Bowl at 4 p.m. Saturday in Mobile, Ala. The game is on the NFL Network.
Boykin is listed by The Sporting News’ Russ Lande as one of eight players who shined this week in practices.
“He showed natural instincts covering receivers, rare foot quickness, loose hips and the speed to run with receivers all over the field,” Lande wrote. “Best of all was that Boykin seemed to enjoy being physical with the big receivers and not only held his own, but was able to consistently keep his man from catching passes.”
Check out what Jones told the Dallas Morning News when he was asked what his strengths are.
“My intelligence,” said Jones, who interviewed this week with the Cowboys. “I’m a smart guy. I can get the whole offensive line on the same page and I’m tough as hell.”
–The (Boulder) Daily Camera reported that former Georgia safety Makiri Pugh is no longer with the Colorado program. The paper says Pugh “was listed as suspended at the end of the season for unspecified reasons.” He moved to receiver last year and played special teams. He had one season remaining.
