Blog: Commings: Georgia defense `is better than theirs’

Playing the nation’s top-ranked team and the nation’s No.2 defense doesn’t mean Georgia players are backing down leading up to Saturday’s SEC championship game against LSU.

At least not junior cornerback Sanders Commings.

“They’ve played well this year, but our players are just as good as theirs,” Commings said this afternoon. “Our defense I think is better than theirs. I’m not going to be worried about how good they say they are or people saying that we don’t have a chance.”

Commings was asked why he thinks Georgia has a better defense.

“I think our defense is better because I think we have better players, I think we have a better coach,” Commings said. “The way we’re playing right now I don’t think anyone can run on us or throw on us.”

Georgia ranks fifth in the nation in total defense. LSU ranks second.

Georgiar ranks 10th in scoring defense. LSU is second.

Georgia is sixth in rushing defense. LSU ranks fourth.

Georgia has the SEC’s leader in sacks in Jarvis Jones and interception leader in Bacarri Rambo.

Jones might have given some bulletin board material already when he said yesterday that “I think our defense is just as good as theirs if not better.”

Commings isn’t concerned about providing LSU with any additional fuel.

“We want them to be motivated,” Commings said. “We want them to give us their best shot because that’s what we’re going to do.”
